Fluidity

Leaders, like surfers, must be able to wait in the water for the perfect wave. However, when the wave does come, you must be able to be not only flexible and fluid, but most importantly KNOW WHEN TO LET THE WAVE GO. Most leaders believe that they must ride the wave until the end instead of knowing when to move on and focus on the next wave. They try to build these eternal processes and structures that may have worked great before, but now through the eyes of new technology, new perspectives and faster consumption of brands, products and services, those "eternal structures" don't work anymore...

Pretty self-explanatory. I could expound upon this and take you through some long drawn out metaphor about how this applies to the entertainment industry, but you know this already. We see it everyday with companies who fail to capitalize on major opportunities because it goes against what is popular right now. The fear of losing money outweighs the unpopular choice. What's popular today is not about what is authentic or genuine, it's simply about building on what was popular last week. Now more than ever, the entertainment industry needs to see more waves of originality and less getting caught up in the riptide of fear and complacency.
